2023 Census: In order to provide the country with a truly digital and scientific census that would produce data for national planning within the context of current realities, it continued, over the years it had invested significant time and resources planning for the census. This involved drawing on its rich institutional experience spanning two censuses and a pool of tested professionals.

Hon. Joseph Kwali, Federal Commissioner for the Federal Capital Territory, provided the guarantee yesterday in Abuja at a one-day workshop on building capacity for journalists in advance of the 2023 Population and Housing Census, with the theme of “Getting the People Involved.”

He asserted that it is undeniable that any organization seeking success must continually communicate with all of its stakeholders—of whom the media was crucial—in order to win their cooperation and support.

Kwali remarked that in order to provide the nation with trustworthy and legitimate data it could use for planning sustainable development, the Commission would undoubtedly need the participation of all stakeholders.

He said: “I am happy to let you all know that the results of the activities leading up to the 2023 Population and Housing Census have been encouraging.

In all the federation’s states as well as the Federal Capital Territory, the Commission has successfully defined 774 LGAs (FCT).

In order to test the census instruments in advance of the census, the Commission also carried out the first and second pre-test exercises. In June 2022, a test census was conducted.

A strategic collaboration with the media will constitute the tripod on which the census architecture will stand in order to reach out to the Nigerian people, according to the statement, “The Commission is on course in its objective to deliver an accurate census to Nigerians.”
