An explosion was heard at a power station in Karaj, Iran, according to social media footage published on Saturday night. Iran International uploaded videos that appeared to show a fire at the scene.
According to accounts, a 4.0 magnitude earthquake was reported in Karaj, northwest of Tehran; however, it is unclear whether it was caused by the explosion or vice versa.
Iranian officials responded. According to the Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Mayadeen news source, Iranian officials stated that the power disruptions in the area were caused by severe weather.
On April 26, an explosion at the Port of Bandar Abbas killed at least 70 and injured over 1,000 people.
Visual evidence and explosives experts agree that the bomb at the Islamic Republic’s major port was caused by a chemical fire that started in a shipping container, as reported by The Washington Post.
