SMEDAN launches internship programme 2024

SMEDAN: A nationwide undergraduate internship program has been initiated by the Nigerian Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency to find, prepare, and enable the next generation of entrepreneurs on college campuses.

The agency’s Director General, Charles Odii, declared during the program’s official launch at Baze University in Abuja that the initiative aims to place 10,000 internships by 2024.

The program’s pioneer participant, Miss Farida Akuyam, a University of Business Management student, was introduced by Mr. Odii, who also explained that the agency has secured the commitment of several prestigious firms to provide opportunities for students seeking practical knowledge and experience. The statement was signed by Peter Adeshina, the DG media aide, on Friday.

He noted that through high-quality internships at prestigious companies, the program known as the “SMEDAN Undergraduate Internship Programme” aims to give students practical entrepreneurial experience.

“We want to identify and develop the people who will create Nigeria’s next unicorns, and this program is a significant step towards accomplishing that goal,” he stated. It is a noteworthy illustration of the agency’s dedication to driving the MSME subsector forward through strategic personnel and innovation investments. Specialized instruction, hands-on learning, networking opportunities, and mentorship will be provided to the chosen students.
