Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Intervention at the presidential residence in Abuja
A conference regarding the country’s rising cost of living is being held by the presidential committee on emergency food intervention at the presidential residence in Abuja.
The head of staff (CoS) to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, calls the committee together.
According to information provided to TheCable, those in attendance include National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Yemi Cardoso, Education Minister Tahir Mamman, Finance Minister Wale Edun, Agriculture Minister Abubakar Kyari, and minister of state for agriculture Mustapha Shehuri.
Some citizens of Niger state’s capital, Minna, blocked the city’s main thoroughfares on Monday in protest of the nation’s growing cost of living.
Their protest exacerbated the city’s rush-hour traffic.
The demonstrators were lamenting their everyday struggles with inflation and economic hardship while singing Hausa slogans.
Ever since President Bola Tinubu eliminated the fuel subsidy on May 29, 2023, the cost of necessities and staples has been steadily rising.
In December 2023, Nigeria’s inflation rate increased from 28.20 percent to 28.9 percent.
