NPC application portal: which was supposed to conduct the 2023 census in April of this year, has explained why it is unable to do so.
Remember that there have been calls for the drill to be rescheduled from some quarters since the timing coincided with Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting.
NPC Application Portal: Isma’il Lawal Suleiman, the Kano State Federal Commissioner, claimed there was not enough time for the commission to deliver the results to the incoming government before it handed over power during a one-day capacity building for media to ensure effective reporting of the process.
We’ve been preparing for the census under the present administration for years, so Suleiman said, “We want to make sure we do this and create what we call preliminary results and offer this current administration before they leave office. We are constrained because there isn’t enough time between the completion of this census and the transition of power to the next administration.
We wouldn’t be able to publish even the preliminary results if the census were postponed today, and we wouldn’t know what the future administration might decide to do. Some of us are aware that you can always sell your goods to anyone if you have a nice product.
“Therefore the rationale is that we want to complete this task under the current administration and produce preliminary findings; the final findings can be delayed till the next administration.
Suleiman said, “Remember the conduct of the census is about a week, it is not going to be throughout the period and the last ten days will not be affected. Ramadan will begin around March 23rd and actual eunumeration will be around March 29th, so it’s about a week after commencement and then just one week and the rest of the days will not be affected.”
The commissioner continued by pointing out that there have been calls for the exercise to be shifted farther by organizations and even certain commissioners of the commission, but he was hoping to persuade them while they were still working on preparations.
Ismaila Alhassan Dogo, the State Director of the Commission, stated in his remarks that the purpose of the meeting is to inform the journalist about the crucial tasks involved in guaranteeing the success of the 2023 census.
