NIGERIAN NAVY DIRECT SHORT SERVICE COMMISSION (DSSC) COURSE 29 GUIDELINES FOR ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS
Nigerian Navy Direct Short Service Commission (dssc) Course 29: Appropriately qualified Nigerians may now apply for special recruitment into the Nigerian Navy through the Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) Course 29. The period for online registration is December 27, 2023 – February 7, 2024. A list of departments and their entry criteria can be seen below.
Guidelines for applying to the Nigerian Navy Direct Short Service Commission Course and meeting the requirements for special enrollment
Medical: There are the following medical specialties with available entry requirements:
a. Dental Surgeons/Medical Officers: Medical doctors are called MBBS, or MBBCh, and dental surgeons are called BDS. To practice medicine, each must possess a current license and be fully registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
b. Pharmacy: B.Pharm/Doctor Pharmacy degree, complete Pharmacy Council of Nigeria registration, and a valid license to practice medicine are required.
c. Medical Lab Science: BMLS, complete registration with the Nigerian Medical Laboratory Scientist Council, and a valid license to practice medicine.
d. Radiographer: Bachelor of Science in Radiography, licensed to practice currently.
e. Physiotherapy: Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation, or BMR, is another name for physiotherapy. must have a valid professional license and be registered with the Medical Rehabilitation Therapist Registration Board of Nigeria (MRTB).
f. Optometry: Optometric Physician. Must hold a valid practicing license, be a fully registered optometrist and dispensing optician with the Optical Council of Nigeria.
g. Medical Records/Health Information Management: A valid practicing license and a BSc or HND are prerequisites.
h. Clinical Psychology: Applied psychology and clinical psychology bachelor’s degree, together with a valid license to practice.
i. Biomedical Engineer: Currently licensed to practice with a Biomedical Engineering BSc/HND.

j. Public health officer: community health information and education or environmental health, BSc/HND. must hold a valid professional license and be completely registered with the Environmental Health Officers Registrations Council of Nigeria (EHORCON).
k. Midwives and general nursing: B.NSc., RN, and RM, licensed to practice currently. An additional benefit will be post-basic qualification in any of the following fields:
- Ophthalmic Nurse
- Dialysis/Renal Nurse.
- Peri-Operative Nurse.
- Intensive Care Unit Nurse.
- Accident and Emergency Nurse.
m. Social Welfare Officer/Nutritionist: Bachelor of Science, license to practice from appropriate regulatory agencies, and membership in the professional board.
n. Occupational Therapist: Bachelor of Science, licensure to practice from appropriate regulatory agencies, and professional board registration.
3. Degrees in engineering: B.Sc. or B. Eng. in the following fields:
- a. Naval Architecture/Ship Design.
- b. Marine Engineering (Mechanical).
- c. Marine Engineering (Electrical).
- d. Mechatronics Engineering.
- e. Control Engineering.
Membership of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria (COREN) will be an added advantage.
4. Information and Communication Technology: BSc, B.Tech, or B.Eng in computer engineering or computer science. Candidates with suitable qualifications in: will be given priority.
a. Network administration and networking.
B. The development of software and programming.
c. Database and server administration.
d. Security online.
e. Digital investigation and computer forensics.
f. Artificial intelligence and robotics.
Having certification in pertinent disciplines will be beneficial.
5. Legal Service: LLB and BL. An extra benefit is an LLM in International Maritime Law, International Law, or Forensic Law.
INFORMATION GENERAL FOR CANDIDATES
1. The candidate must be a natural born citizen of Nigeria.
2. Candidates are cautioned not to submit forged documents or fraudulent information. If at any point fraudulent documents or false information is found, the application will be disqualified and will face legal action.
3. Candidates must have at least Upper Credit for holders of an HND and Second Class Upper Division for holders of a First degree. In every industry, having computer literacy will be advantageous.
4. Candidates must have certificates attesting to their complete registration with the relevant Nigerian statutory professional bodies.
5. Candidates with credentials from overseas schools should make sure the Federal Ministry of Education has verified them, and copies of each certificate must be turned in at the designated aptitude test locations.
6. The O’level West African Examination Certificate (WAEC), along with any additional results, like NECO, must be shown by all applicants. English and mathematics credits are required.
7. A letter of exemption or a NYSC discharge certificate is a mandatory prerequisite for enlistment.
8. The minimum height requirement for male applicants is 1.68 meters, and the minimum height requirement for female applicants is 1.65 meters.
9. By March 25, 2024, applicants must be between the ages of 22 and 28. With the exception of medical officers, who shouldn’t be older than thirty.
10. A properly signed letter of attestation from the leaders of their units is required for serving people, soldiers, rating/airmen, and other paramilitary services personnel.
11. A qualifying aptitude exam will be administered to the shortlisted applicants. The Nigerian Navy website will be used to announce the aptitude exam date and time.
