Latest NPower News Today: Betta Edu: N30bn Recovered; 50 Bank Accounts Under Investigation – EFCC The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) claims to have seized N30 billion in the alleged money laundering case involving suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Betta Edu and the Ministry. It also disclosed that 50 bank accounts were under investigation.

This was revealed in a bulletin called “EFCC Alert.” The briefing described several important arrests, prosecutions, and recoveries conducted by the commission in the last month.

The letter, signed by the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, showed that the recovered N30 billion is already in the Federal Government’s coffers.

“Update on the Betta Edu probe. We follow rules and regulations in our investigations. Nigerians will also be aware that they have already been suspended, based on the investigations we have conducted, and President Bola Tinubu has demonstrated to Nigerians that he is prepared to fight corruption.

“Moreover, in this particular case, we have recovered almost N30 billion, which is already in the coffers of the Federal Government.

“It takes time to complete investigations; we started this case less than six weeks ago.” Certain cases can take years to investigate. There are numerous angles to consider. And we must follow through on some of the discoveries that we have made. Nigerians should allow us time on this subject; we have specialists on the case, and they must perform their job well. There are a lot of leads.

“We are currently investigating more than 50 bank accounts into which we have traced money. That is hardly child’s play. That’s a huge deal. Then you inquire about my staff strength. Again, we’re working on thousands of other examples. Nigerians have seen the results of our efforts thus far, with some people suspended and others recovering.

“You’ve noticed that the program has been paused. We’re looking into the many discoveries we’ve made during our study. “If it is about seeing individuals in jail, let them wait; everything has a procedure to follow. So Nigerians should be patient and give us the benefit of the doubt,” the EFCC document states.

On January 8, President Bola Tinubu dismissed Dr. Edu from office and ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the suspected transfer of N585.189 million destined for vulnerable groups in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ogun, and Lagos states to a private account.
