Federal Government to distribute 42,000MT grains nationwide
Federal Government: On Wednesday, the Federal Government declared that it would provide free distribution of the 42,000 metric tonnes of grains that President Bola Tinubu had approved to underprivileged Nigerians.
To guarantee that the goods reach the intended population across the country, it was also disclosed that the Department of State Services and the National Emergency Management Agency had been involved in the distribution process.
At a ministerial press briefing in Abuja, it revealed this through Abubakar Kyari, the minister of agriculture and food security.
To combat the rising cost of food in Nigeria, President Tinubu gave the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security instructions last week to release roughly 42,000MT of maize, millet, and other commodities from the national strategic reserves.
Following an occasion of the Presidential Council on Emergency Food Intervention, Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Communication and National Orientation, revealed this in Abuja.
The Nigerian Rice Millers Association has promised to provide roughly 60,000MT of rice to the markets, according to Idris.

“First, to make these goods available to Nigerians right now, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has been instructed to release around 42,000MT of maize, millet, garlic, and other commodities from their strategic reserve.
The second is that we have had discussions with the Nigerian Rice Millers Association. We have requested that the people in charge of producing this rice open their businesses.
They claim to be able to guarantee roughly 60,000 metric tons of rice. The information minister had informed journalists that they would make that available to Nigerians, bringing food to the market.
The Agriculture Minister explained at the press conference on Wednesday that the 42,000MT of grains would be given out for free to underprivileged Nigerians.
“This 42,000MT is going to the needy completely free of charge,” Kyari declared. It will be given for free, direct to the poor.
When asked how the government planned to determine who was in need, Kyari said, “We met with NEMA and DSS to get the index.” Here is where intelligence reports on areas most in need of it should be gathered. And those indicators will be examined by us.
The agriculture minister emphasized that state governors had been informed of this development and that the government would make sure that only those who require the grains benefit from the exercise.
