Conditional Cash Transfer News: After requiring an identity system to authenticate beneficiaries, President Bola Tinubu has approved the return of N25,000 monthly cash payments to disadvantaged Nigerians.
Following President Tinubu’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Finance Minister Wale Edun revealed this to State House media.
It was disclosed by him that Tinubu had ordered the immediate resumption of direct cash payments to 12 million households, subject to certain safeguards.
“The panel’s main suggestion was that the program should be restarted in light of the increasingly low purchasing power of households.

The direct payments to 12 million families, or 60 million Nigerians, will thus start up right once, Edun stated, with the crucial caveat that each beneficiary will be recognized by their national identification number and bank verification number.
He stated that the purpose of using BVNs and national identity numbers (NINs) was to prevent fraud that had previously afflicted the program and guarantee that payments were made to verified recipients only.
