Good News To NYSC Corps Members From Federal Government
Federal Government: NYSC Has Ceased Sending Corps Members To Dangerous States
Corps Members: In light of the nation’s deteriorating security conditions, the Federal Government has announced that participants in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Program are no longer assigned to states deemed dangerous.
Concerns regarding the safety of participants in the national integration scheme arose after many corps members were kidnapped in various parts of the nation during their one-year required national service.
According to Jamila Ibrahim Bio, the Minister of Youth Development, who made this announcement on Sunday night, the Scheme has taken precautions to keep corps members safe, such as assigning them only to secure locations for their primary assignments.
“We have stopped posting corps members to the very unsafe states as an immediate intervention of the government and the NYSC as an agency,” the Minister stated on Channels Television’s current affairs show, “Sunday Politics,” which our correspondent in Abuja was watching.

“We’ve been carrying it out. It is something we have done in the past. To protect their safety, we have not been assigning corps members to certain states,” she continued.
As to her statement, cooperation between various government entities is necessary to ensure the safety of corps members.
“There is a multi-sectoral approach when it comes to security problems. Therefore, the ministry and the NYSC are not the only parties involved. We are collaborating with security agencies to guarantee the safety of corps members.
“To guarantee that they are transported to and from camps safely as well as to their destinations, we are also working on group transportation strategies for them,” she continued.
According to the minister, the federal government is striving to update the NYSC program to better reflect the current state of the country, especially about allowances.
“We are considering the comprehensive funding of the NYSC when it comes to compensation. As you are all aware, we have declared that the NYSC program will be reformed. We want the initiative to be more than just a government social program.
Miss Bio continued, “The reforms will turn the NYSC into a revenue-generating organization and prepare corps members for the job market.”
