Call For Application: Empower to Plan Small Grants Programme
Population Matters is currently taking proposals for its Empower to Plan Small Grants Programme, which supports programs that promote family planning, sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender equality, environmental sustainability, and other relevant themes.
They advocate for ethical, voluntary, and constructive solutions that promote fewer families, eliminate excessive consumption, and allow us to live within the planet’s natural constraints. The objective is to inspire large-scale action by encouraging choices that promote a sustainable human population and environmental restoration.
Thematic Focus.
They work with organizations dedicated to improving the lives of girls and women and conserving the environment.
They sponsor initiatives that integrate two or more of the following theme areas within their project design:
Sexual and reproductive health and education
- Gender justice.
- Family planning.
- Environmental justice.
- Empowering young people, girls, and women.
- Environmental education is linked to climate adaptation, resilience, and mitigation.
- Species and/or habitat preservation.
- They encourage projects that use the Population/People, Health, and Environment (PHE) strategy, which combines these three critical components for a comprehensive impact.
- Furthermore, they acknowledge, promote, and welcome applications from projects that work with boys and men to achieve gender equality.
Funding Information
- They provide awards of up to £7,000 per application.
- Typical grant amounts range from £4,000 to £6,000.
- They award the entire grant money at the start of the funding period.
- Every year, they award three grants through the Empower to Plan program.
- They often support projects that last between four and twelve months.
Types of Projects
- They examine applications for many types of projects, including but not limited to:
- Implementation of certain initiatives managed by the organization.
- Scaling up existing ventures to reach a larger audience.
- Seed money for innovative ideas or new ventures.
- Meeting the operating expenditures of continuing initiatives.
Eligibility Criteria/Essential criteria:
- Organizations should support Population Matters’ goal and vision, as well as its commitment to human rights, women’s empowerment, and global justice.
- Organizations should include two or more of the Empower to Plan theme areas listed in the theme Focus.
- In their country of operation, organizations must be registered as grassroots/non-profit/nongovernmental/trust/civil society/community-based organizations.
- Organisations should have an annual income of £5,000 to £250,000, with a preference for those at the lower end of this range.
- To receive funds, organizations must have a bank account that is internationally registered.
- Organizations must be legally capable of accepting funds from international organizations.
- Organizations must be able to submit yearly and/or management accounts, as well as audited accounts, as requested.
- Organizations must either have or demonstrate a willingness to implement safeguarding, Financial Management, and policies against fraud, bribery, and corruption.
- Population Matters is delighted to assist organizations that do not yet have these policies in place.
Desirable criteria:
- Community members govern, direct, or lead organizations.
- Organizations are led and represented by women, as well as individuals who have firsthand experience with the issues they seek to solve.
- Emerging and established grassroots organizations, particularly those with limited or no access to funding from larger donors.
