To improve women’s access to healthcare facilities, the Federal Government aims to provide 37,000 women in the nation with N200 monthly health insurance, according to Minister of Women Affairs Mrs. Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye.
Kennedy-Ohanenye emphasized that the program supports women’s well-being and is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda while speaking at a press conference in Abuja.
She stressed that the N2,400 annual health insurance program will be made possible in collaboration with PLUG, a microfinance bank..
Programs for women’s empowerment that the ministry has proposed
Kennedy-Ohanenye described in detail the government’s strategy for giving women more economic clout. According to her, the 37,000 point-of-sale (POS) terminals being distributed are intended to improve the financial condition of women and streamline financial transactions.
To ensure the efficient distribution of resources, especially in rural areas, she stressed the significance of interacting with a variety of stakeholders, including traditional and community leaders, lawmakers, governors, state ministries for women’s affairs, and market leaders.

“That way, the right people will be involved in what we are doing—those who can manage the business, even in the villages.”
In addition, the minister disclosed that as part of measures to encourage women’s entrepreneurship and create jobs, 300 computers will be given to women and people with disabilities (PWDs).
These recipients will be given access to online employment options and information technology (IT) training in order to supplement their income.
Kennedy-Ohanenye also provided information on the Pink Riders Initiative, which will start in army barracks to protect women operators before moving on to other regions of the nation.
By giving them tricycles to support their livelihoods, this initiative seeks to empower women and eventually lead to financial independence.
The minister also emphasized the cooperation in agricultural projects aimed at improving food security and production at discounted rates between the Ministry of Women Affairs and the army.
She underlined the enforcement of mobile courts for the swift prosecution of perpetrators and guaranteeing justice for survivors, reinforcing the government’s commitment to safeguarding the rights of women and children.
