Dr. Betta Edu: The minister came under fire when it was revealed that she requested that the federation’s accountant-general, Oluwatoyin Madein, move N585 million to a private account in a note. A letter dated December 20, 2023, that was leaked contains the payment instructions.
Edu directed the accountant-general to deposit the aforementioned amount into the UBA account of Oniyelu Bridget Mojisola, as stated in the letter, which was signed by the minister and was titled: “Mandate for Payment of Grant for Vulnerable Groups in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Lagos, and Ogun States respectively.”

In response to the outcry from the public, Edu denied any misconduct in a post on X.
“Our mottos are responsibility and integrity! No one in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation will misuse public monies like they did in the past, she wrote. “There is no value to the schemes to damage the reputation of the Ministry, myself, or this administration.”
