Student Loan Update And Latest NG-CARES News: FG gives the states and FCT N135.4 billion
NG-CARES: After the second Independent Assessment of Results acquired under the Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES), the Federal Government has disbursed N135.4 billion to states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the World Bank is funding NG-CARES, a $750 million Performance for Results program.
This was announced in a statement released on Sunday by Dr. Abdulkarim Obaje, the NG-CARES Program’s National Coordinator.
According to Obaje, the funds were allocated by the results attained by the federal government and the states in their endeavors to aid underprivileged and marginalized Nigerians via the NG-CARES program.
“In this Second Round of Assessment, the top three states with the best performance are Zamfara Cross River and Nasarawa, which received:
- Zamfara N10,231,055,267.82.
- Cross River N10,944,747,818.84
- Nasarawa N13,697,828,496.96
“In the efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to provide funds towards addressing multi-dimensional poverty in the country, this is a milestone achievement,” stated Obaje.

Student loan: NANS praises Tinubu and promises to keep an eye on the program’s execution
(NANS) is thrilled that President Bola Tinubu’s student loan program began in January.
The umbrella organization for Nigerian students, NANS, declared that it will oversee the program’s execution.
The group requested permission from the federal government to oversee the program to strictly enforce adherence to its objectives and terms.
This was said by NANS President Lucky Emonefe over the weekend during his first-ever press conference following the association’s national convention in Abuja.
On Monday, the association chose new officers.
Additionally, Emonefe praised President Tinubu for scrapping the rule requiring postsecondary institutions to send 40% of their internal revenue to the government.
“Without sugarcoating it, the President’s feelings of measuring the pulse of Nigerian students and citizens are evident in the stoppage of the proposed remittance of 40% IGR of public-owned tertiary institutions of learning to the federal cover.” the statement said.
“The average Nigerian student’s survival and well-being would have been severely impacted by the policy.”
The head of NANS pleaded with the head of the Inubu to grant all Nigerian students access to a 200,000 national annual bursary.
The fund would serve “as palliatives to cushion the effects of the hard economic situation in the country,” according to Emonefe.
In light of the aforementioned, we fervently implore Mr. President to provide all Nigerian students, regardless of their tribe or creed, with a yearly national scholarship of N200,000.
“This will, of course, mitigate the effects of the harsh economic conditions brought on by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms.”
