NPower Program News Today 14 April 2024 FG Lifts Restrictions on N-Power Staff Accounts
NPower Program News: The Federal Government has relaxed the limitation placed on N-Power Situation Room contract staff’s bank accounts, according to the New Telegraph. This newspaper reported in late February that a post-no-debit order was placed on the workers’ bank accounts following an investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, and the interdicted Coordinator, National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), Hajiya Halima Shehu.
While the workers accused the anti-graft agency of taking the move, the latter denied the claim, adding, “All these contract staff of NPower; we have no business with them.” “Our decision to suspend accounts is limited to individuals who were charged over the course of our inquiry.”
One of the situation room staff, speaking on behalf of his colleagues, stated: “We are all aggrieved by the ongoing investigation that has made innocent people victims by freezing the accounts of mere contract staff who worked throughout the year from May 2023 to December 2023, without any form of salary payment.
“April 2023 marked the date of the most recent payment. till a few days after Christmas that they managed to pay the delays of eight months (May to December) to the amount of N640,000 at N80,000 per month.”We were all pleased to receive our long-awaited wages after waiting all year for them to be paid, only to have our accounts blocked by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to this day.
“We are appealing to request our accounts be unfrozen so we can have access to them, as the situation is unbearable for every one of us.” Providing an update on the subject, the source, clearly excited, revealed the “unfreezing of our accounts that were (allegedly) frozen since December last year.“
His words: “I’d like to provide an update on the over 55 bank accounts of NPower Situation Room staff that have been restricted as a result of the ongoing investigation by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and the NSIPA.”
“I am pleased to inform everyone that we now have access to our different bank accounts, and this happened a few days ago.”However, a couple of my colleagues have been unable to withdraw funds, which is solely the responsibility of their banks.
