NSCDC guarantees census security to NPC
The National Population Commission (NPC) has received assurances of protection from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, to ensure the successful completion of the National Population and Housing Census in 2023.
While hosting Mr. Chidi Ezeoke, the Federal Commissioner who represents the state in the commission, and his team at the State Command Headquarters in Awka, State Commandant Mr. Isidore Chikere offered the guarantee.
The NSCDC boss reiterated the command’s preparedness to work with the NPC to ensure the success of the exercise, describing the census as a very important national duty.
I’m impressed by this visit, he said. It demonstrates your understanding of how crucial NSCDC is to the success of the exercise. It’s great that you’re working together to reach out to the appropriate stakeholders as partners in progress.
“NPC needs stakeholder support to deliver trustworthy and credible statistics. In light of this, rest assured that the NSCDC is setting up security measures for a smooth exercise.
Ezeoke praised the commandant for allowing the corps to cooperate with the commission.
During and after the headcount, he requested security to ensure that people and materials could move without incident.
According to Ezeoke, the commission would be able to produce credible, accurate, and acceptable high-quality data for the country’s development plans with the 2023 census, the first digital exercise in population and housing.
“The 2023 National Population and Housing Census are approaching quickly, so I came to give you an update on the steps being taken to launch it. We are also here to organize security-related support for the exercise.

According to reports, Mrs. Izonfuo, a former head of service in Bayelsa State, was kidnapped on Sunday at around 6 p.m. while traveling from Brass in Bayelsa State to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on the East-West Road.
The Rivers State Police Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, verified the event and said the Commissioner of Police has ordered tactical teams to ensure the victims’ release.
