Latest NPC News: —The National Population Commission (NPC), in partnership with Barnksforte Technologies Limited and UNICEF, organized a retreat to polish and fine-tune the recently launched digital VitalReg services.
VitalReg is a state-of-the-art digital application that provides self-service and assisted service to members of the public to register vital events like birth registration, stillbirth registration, death registration, birth attestation, diaspora birth and death notification, marriage and divorce notification, migration registration, vital certificate verification, and hospital onboarding.
This is all part of efforts to improve electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (e-CRVS) and integrate data from multiple systems in a cost-effective manner in Nigeria.
The VitalReg system offers a digital certificate in every situation, a platform for verification that is accessible to registered organizations, and a dashboard for central administration that shows and analyzes compiled civil registration data into important statistics for appropriate planning and decision-making.
The National Population Commission Chairman, Nasir Isa Kwarra, said during a three-day retreat in Abuja that VitalReg is a modern digital solution that complies with worldwide best practices, replacing the conventional paper-based method of recording vital events.
VitalReg, according to Kwara, is expected to completely transform the nation’s systems for tracking, recording, and analyzing important events.
This was said in a statement made public on Saturday by Mrs. Nkoyo Nwakusor, the NPC’s acting director of public affairs.
Kwara went on to say that the Commission is mandated by the Constitution to set up and manage systems for the ongoing, widespread registration of births and deaths across the Federation.
Adedayo Bankole, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Barnksforte Technologies Limited, also spoke and thanked the Federal Government and the Commission for giving him the chance to give the technology solution needed to digitalize important statistics and civil registration in Nigeria.
Bankole promised to keep enhancing the program to promote effective data generation around the nation.
Ibrahim Sessay, Chief of Child Protection at UNICEF Nigeria, stated that Nigeria is increasing the automation of the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics process by the resolution and suggestions made by the Conference of African Ministers in charge of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics, which took place from October 24–27, 2022, at the United Nations Conference Center in Addis Ababa. The conference called for all African nations to automate the CRVS process and guarantee the execution of the UN Legal Identity Agenda.
He praised the Commission’s initiatives to boost birth registration rates nationwide to guarantee that every child born there has a record and an identity.
Recall that on November 8, 2023, at the State House in Abuja, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially launched the electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System (e-CRVS). This same day also saw the establishment of the National Geospatial Data Repository and the National Coordination Committee on CRVS.
The NPC’s groundbreaking VitalReg system was made possible by a Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement between Barnksforte Technologies Limited, a respectable and creative local ICT solution provider with experience working with government agencies.
