Apply Federal Character In Recruitment: The Federal Character Commission (FCC) has asked all federal tertiary institutions to use federal character standards in recruiting to ensure equity, fairness, and justice. Chuks Okoli, Director of Public Affairs and Communication at the FCC, announced on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to him, applying the principle was mandatory and by Section 14 (B) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s constitution.

He stated that the commission had been disappointed to learn that several Federal Tertiary Institutions had begun staff recruitment without first consulting the FCC, which was charged with guaranteeing equity, fairness, and justice in the process.

He stated that the commission’s goal was to implement the federal character concept, which aims to ensure a fair and equitable distribution of positions, socioeconomic amenities, and infrastructure facilities across all federating units countrywide.

“The circular from the Department to the Government of the Federation made no mention of Federal Tertiary Institutions failing to adhere to the Federal Character Principle.

“Therefore, any recruiting Federal Tertiary Institution must rigorously comply with all Federal Character Commission requirements. To avoid misunderstandings, please consult the Commission’s guidebook.

“Any person, MDA, or Federal Tertiary Institution that conducts recruitment in violation of the Federal Character Commission’s recruitment guidelines and principles commits an offense under Section 14 of the Act, punishable under Section 15.”

“National Universities Commission (NUC), National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), all Heads of Federal Institutions and other relevant authorities are to please, take note,” stated Okoli.
