2023 INEC: promises to pay corps members’ allowances and reveals the problem
2023 INEC: The National Youth Service Corps members who took part in the presidential and national assembly elections will receive their allowances, according to the Independent National Election Commission.
Rotimi Oyekanmi, the INEC Chairman’s chief press secretary, revealed this to our correspondent.
A corps member complained on social media on Wednesday that they would not be able to vote in the gubernatorial and state assembly elections on Saturday because they had not received their election money while stationed in Enugu State.
Answering, Oyekanmi said that funds were already with the state offices and advised the corps members to be patient with the entire process.

In accordance with their allowances, “enough provision has been made for all National Youth Service Corps members and other ad hoc employees engaged for the 2023 General Election,” he said.
In reality, the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, instructed the RECs to see to it that all ad-hoc personnel received the full amount of allowances due them at the Commission’s meeting with the Resident Electoral Commissioners on Monday.

“We ask any duly engaged corps members who worked on Election Day but may not have been paid to kindly be patient.” Their allowances will be given to them.
