FG plans to train 2000 Nigerians in vocational training through its UNLOCK initiative

The Nigerian Federal Government wants to train 2000 applicants through the UNLOCK Initiative for Vocational Training. The UNLOCK initiative aims to provide individuals with key skills and toolkits to boost entrepreneurship across the country. This effort is consistent with the present administration’s goal of developing untapped potential and promoting economic growth.

The training program, operated by the Presidency’s Office of Technical, Vocational, and Entrepreneurship Education, has begun assessing candidates for its first nationwide vocational training cohort.

According to Nairametrics, the program has already garnered over 10,000 entries by the application deadline of February 29, 2024.

About the program

The initiative focuses on craftsmen, technicians, and vocational trainees from across Nigeria, stressing inclusivity and accessibility. The selected 2000 people will participate in a revolutionary two-week virtual entrepreneurship training program separated into two sections with 1000 participants each.

The UNLOCK initiative aims to unlock individuals’ hidden technical and entrepreneurial potential, allowing them to contribute significantly to national economic growth and personal advancement.

This is expected to provide a stronger basis for their entrepreneurial ventures. Exceptional UNLOCK program members may be eligible for financial grants to assist with the program’s launch and expansion.

According to Abiola Arogundande, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Technical and Vocational Education, UNLOCK’s mission is to ignite latent technical and entrepreneurial potentials, allowing participants to contribute to national economic development and personal empowerment.

It equips Nigerian artisans and entrepreneurs with the skills needed to compete in today’s global marketplace and contribute to the country’s economic growth.
