FCTA: The World Bank’s $4.5 million Fadama grant will help over 12,000 farmers
Fadama grant: The World Bank has awarded $4.5 million to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for its Fadama initiative, which is expected to help around 12,283 farmers.
The award was given to the third group of 3,707 farmers in the Gwagwalada neighborhood of the federal capital on Thursday, when Mariya Mahmoud, the minister of state for the Federal Capital Territory, spoke.
According to Mahmoud, the award is a portion of the $15 million funded by the World Bank for the FCTA’s Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (FCT CARES) initiative.
She said that 4,233 farmers had benefited from the initiative in the first and second batches, for a total of 7,940 farmers to date.
She stated that the funding would be used for dry season farming in 2023 and 2024 as well as revenue generation.
Fertilizers, improved seeds, agrochemicals, personal protective equipment, and a sprayer for crop growers were among the items given out during the occasion.

Goats for livestock farmers, juvenile feed for fish farmers, day-old chicks and feed for poultry farmers, and grinding equipment for female processors were among the other agricultural products.
To realize President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope program, the minister described the funding as a “significant milestone.”
NAN reported Mahmoud as stating, “To facilitate the attainment of food and nutritional security, the agricultural sector has been chosen as one of the critical intervention areas under the renewed hope agenda.”
Along with creating meaningful jobs for the hordes of unemployed youth, it will also make it easier to supply raw materials to our regional industries and will greatly boost foreign exchange inflow through exports.
“The Fadama program was purposefully created to assist low-income and vulnerable households participating in agricultural value chains in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in resuming their livelihood activities, with a focus on women and young people without jobs.
“The World Bank’s community-driven development approach is the foundation for its implementation, as it guides the deployment of program investments at the local level.”
