4IRTA Grant: The Minister of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy announced the 10 shortlisted grantees for the Fourth Industrial Revolution Technology Application (4IRTA) in Agriculture, in support of President Tinubu’s mandate to cultivate 500,000 hectares of land throughout Nigeria to increase food security.
Remember that the Federal Government of Nigeria invited applications in November of last year for relevant, market-ready ideas that use 4IR technologies (UAVs, loT, Al, and blockchain) to boost productivity in the country’s agricultural sector.
What Is 4IRTA?
4IRTA, or Fourth Industrial Revolution Technology Application, refers to the application of cutting-edge technology related to the 4IR, or the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This revolution is bringing revolutionary improvements to several industries through the convergence of digital, physical, and biological technology, with an emphasis on improving agriculture’s production, sustainability, and efficiency.
Background and Application Process
The Federal Government requested applications for commercially viable ideas utilizing 4IR technologies in November of the preceding year. The call focused on utilizing blockchain, IoT, AI, and UAVs to increase agricultural output in Nigeria. 2,329 applications were submitted throughout the two-week application period, indicating a significant response.
These contributions were subjected to two rounds of thorough assessments, which were led by internationally renowned 4IR technology practitioners and researchers of Nigerian heritage. Review criteria included how well the applicants’ video demos fulfilled the 4IRTA objectives, how well the proposed solutions aligned with those objectives, and how well-prepared the applicants’ ideas were all carefully considered.

The Minister stated that 2,329 applications were received during the two-week application period. These applications underwent two rounds of evaluation, with assistance from eminent 4IR Technology researchers and practitioners worldwide who are of Nigerian heritage.
The reviews used factors such as how well the suggested solution was demonstrated in the movie and how well it aligned with the 4IRTA objectives.
