NPC News Today 14, May 2024:Tinubu ordains two additional NPC commissioners
In the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, President Bola Tinubu swore in two more Federal Commissioners of the National Population Commission or NPC.
Fasuwa Johnson Johnson (Ogun State) and Amidu Tadese Raheem (Osun State) were sworn in at the swearing-in event, which took place shortly before the fifth Federal Executive Council, or FEC, meeting of 2024 got underway.
A few weeks had passed since 17 of their colleagues took the oath of office in March before they were sworn in.
Before meeting behind closed doors, the FEC, led by President Bola Tinubu, observed a minute of silence in honor of two former ministers: Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, who served as the former minister of science, technology, and innovation, and Professor Fabian Osuji, who served as the minister of education.
During the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Osuji, who passed away in February at the age of 82, held the position of minister of education. In this capacity, he was instrumental in introducing policies that had a good impact on the education system.
During the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Onu was named Minister of Science and Technology. He passed away at the age of 72.
The Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; the President’s Chief of Staff, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila; the Head of the Federation’s Civil Service, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan; and the majority of other Council members were present at the Council Chamber for the cabinet meeting.
The council meeting will go on today in the interim. When they reconvened on Tuesday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, informed State House media that significant decisions had been made and that some more pressing matters would be discussed.
Vanguard learned that more than forty memoranda had been reviewed as of 5 p.m. when the cabinet adjourned the council meeting, which had started at noon. Keep in mind that the FEC met for the last time on March 25, 2024.
