$200,000 grant opportunity for Nigerian women in the green economy
Nigerian women excelling in the green economy have the opportunity to receive $200,000 in grant money to help them grow their enterprises through the Climate Gender Equity Fund (CGEF), which was developed by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and Amazon.
The funds, awarded through the CGEF’s “She Sustains Accelerator Programme,” are intended to help and empower creative climate-focused entrepreneurs and early-stage green enterprises through education, mentorship, and funding. A total of 56 winners will be chosen, with the first two cohorts each yielding nineteen winners and the third cohort providing an extra 18 wins.
The She Sustains Accelerator Programme, sponsored by Abuja-based alternative energy startup Clean Tech Hub, accepts submissions until March 29th. This one-of-a-kind opportunity is open to green enterprises led by women.

Ifeoma Malo, founder and CEO of Clean Tech Hub, emphasized the initiative’s goal of encouraging gender-responsive climate innovation and enabling female entrepreneurs to make meaningful changes while addressing major environmental issues in Africa and beyond. Winners will get up to $200,000 in equity-free funding, access to a worldwide investor network, and long-term entrepreneurial prospects.
The term “green economy” refers to an economic strategy that stresses sustainability while reducing environmental damage. Renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, geothermal, hydro, and biomass, as well as energy efficiency and green infrastructure, are critical to the development of a green economy.
USAID emphasizes the Climate Gender Equity Fund’s role in boosting climate funding access for gender-responsive, women-led, and women-benefiting organizations working to address climate change.
The CGEF is the main project of USAID’s Climate Finance for Development Accelerator (CFDA), a $250 million program targeted at raising $2.5 billion in public and private climate investments by 2030 to assist climate change mitigation and adaptation measures.
The CGEF plans to raise at least $60 million in funding from diverse stakeholders, beginning with a $6 million investment from USAID and Amazon. Amazon’s $50 million investment in women-led and women-founded climate technology startups fits with the Climate Pledge Fund’s Female Founder Initiative, which supports the company’s net-zero carbon aspirations.
This grant opportunity highlights a deliberate commitment to empowering women in the green economy, encouraging innovation and sustainability while addressing global climate change problems.
