This was said by Prof. Tahir Mamman, the Minister of Education, on Monday in Abuja at a two-day workshop aimed at increasing the competence of desk officers within the ministry and its departments and agencies.
According to Mamman, the ministry would be able to advise state governments on what to do by using the school data. “We plan to sign a partnership contract with a firm by the end of this year or early next year, and they will work with our IT people to generate data on all schools in Nigeria,” he stated.
This is because we require data to understand learning trends and school infrastructure, as well as a thorough understanding of every student.
“This exercise will improve policy formulation and decision-making because the data gathered and compiled will support evidence-based planning, track implementation and progress, and pinpoint areas that need improvement.”
The Minister also bemoaned the nation’s rate of learning crisis, citing a report that was sent to him that revealed many students were illiterate and unable to read or comprehend basic mathematics problems.

Nonetheless, he pointed out that the ministry has plans to influence students’ soft fundamental abilities to meet its goals.
The Minister stated that the training was intended to improve the ability to monitor, compile, harmonize, and report on the progress made in putting the Education Sector Roadmap and the Ministerial Deliverables into practice.
“It will additionally guarantee the efficient monitoring and execution of governmental policies and initiatives,” he continued.
He tasked participants, including desk officers and directors of MDAs, to customize their initiatives, activities, and programs to achieve the deliverables.
The participants were exhorted by the Minister to submit prompt, dependable, and credible reports regarding the initiatives, programs, and activities of their departments and organizations.
According to Mamman, the Ministry’s primary priorities are to ensure that accurate, timely, and trustworthy education statistics are produced at all levels and to advance skill development.
It also involves teacher preparation and development, cutting down on the number of children in Nigeria who are not in school, and improving skill development throughout the whole educational system for creative and employable education.
“If we do education correctly, I think everything else will work itself out. “Everyone is a byproduct of our activities—the doctors who staff our hospitals, the nurses who administer vaccines, the engineers in charge of our construction projects.” The Minister expressed gratitude to the Kaduna State administration and security agencies for their assistance in securing the release of the 287 kidnapped kids in the state.
To help the government handle the learning crisis and actualize the deliverables, Ian Attfield, Senior Education Officer, Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO), promised to provide finance for continuing education.
