At its head office in Lagos, the company distributed grants to the first group of eligible students attending higher institutions as part of its academic support program, the Seeds for the Future Education Grant.

Fifteen students from different departments at the University of Lagos are the initial recipients of the grants. Akinyade Simisola and Ugoegbulem David of the Department of Education Foundation, Oyibo Ufedo-Ojo and Olaloko Olamide of the Department of Civil Engineering, Bamigbose Joseph and Adeniran Ridwanullah of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Uvere Franca and Ihejiamatu Anthony of the Department of Chemical Engineering are among the recipients on the list.

At the unveiling ceremony held at the Lagos-Osun Hall, Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, the corporation was joined by His Excellency, Professor Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), the vice president of the Federal Republic. Other dignitaries were Argentina’s ambassador to Nigeria, the African Development Bank president (represented), the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, and Senator Babafemi Ojudu, among others.

Speaking during the award’s announcement, Professor Osinbajo praised Olam Agri’s board and management for the grant as well as other significant firm actions, saying that the program’s launch offers us “several reasons to be hopeful and to celebrate.”

Seeds for the Future, now a fully-fledged Foundation, is expanding its education portfolio intervention to include grants for students attending postsecondary institutions, which is what the project’s Education Grant initiative arm aims to address.
